Adelino C. Fontes, Sr., 89, of Canton, passed away Thursday, February 8th, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. Born in Canton, Ohio on September 25, 1934, the eldest son of the late Christian and Vivian (Gonsalves) Fontes. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary E. (Perry) Fontes, son Alan C. Fontes, grandson LeRoy Jeter III, sister Carol Massey, and 4 brothers John Fontes, Manuel Fontes, Edward Fontes and Julio Fontes. He was a member of the former St. Paul's Catholic Church and was employed for 42 years at Republic Steel of Canton, before retiring. Survived by 4 daughters Deborah (Benny McLeod) Milini, of Canton, Carla M. Caddell, of Norfolk, Virginia, Alesia (LeRon) Tibbs, of Canton, and Alexandria (Kenneth) Williams, of Canton; 3 sons Adelino C. Fontes Jr., of Canton, Anthony C. (Jonice) Fontes Sr., of Norfolk, Virginia, and Armand C. (Candace) Fontes, of Canton; 3 sisters Marie Pride, Sonja (Tyrone) Nance, and Anna Marie (Carlton) Williams; brother Richard (Rosemary) Fontes; sister-in-law Mamie Fontes; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives. Calling Hours will be held Thursday, February 15th in the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home, from 6 PM - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, on Friday, February 16th, in St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michael Dr. NW, Canton, OH 44718, with Father Benson C. Okpara as celebrant. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery of Massillon.
