Alvin ("Al") Lee Allender, 84, of East Sparta passed away on July 22, 2026 at Aultman Hospital. Born in Marietta, Ohio on March 11, 1942, he was the son of the late William Allender and Garnett Eloise Randleman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Darlene (Croston) Allender. Al lived a life built on hard work, dedication, and the people he loved most. A talented mechanic with an unmatched passion for automobiles, he spent many years working on cars and took great pride in his craft. He started his own business, Allender Import, where he honed his skills on MGs and MGBs becoming respected throughout the Midwest as the "go to" for any help or parts. In doing so, he not only supported his family but also made many wonderful friends throughout the years. Prior to that, he worked as a draftsman for Diebold, where his skill and precision (especially his incredible handwriting, which his sons tried hard to emulate) were valued and well respected. Music was the soundtrack to Al's life. His tastes remained rooted in the eras before the 1980s, with a special appreciation for the timeless sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. Whether it was Elvis Presley, The O'Jays, Neil Diamond, or countless other artists, there was always a song that could spark a memory and bring a smile to his face. He was well-known for his limbo moves and for providing the real answer to the question "how low can you go?". Above all else, Al cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to his sons, and an adoring grandfather whose grandchildren brought him endless joy. He treasured the time spent with those he loved, creating memories that will be carried on by each of them. Al also enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved his German Shepherds that watched over him through the years ("Snow"), gathering around the table for a game of cards, sharing stories about the good old days and laughing with those around him (usually with a Black Label and his pipe in hand). New Year's Eve held a special place in his heart, as it marked his wedding anniversary. Over the years, he and his beloved wife celebrated the occasion with countless parties, surrounded by family and friends, making each anniversary another cherished chapter in their life together. Al is survived by 2 sons Dana (Noel) Allender, Duane Allender; brother Dean Allender; 2 grandchildren Blake, Sydney; his Aunt Eunice Adams; as well as other loving family members and friends. A funeral service will take place in the Ward-Simchak Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30 at 12pm. Family and friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Garden of Louisville.
