Bertha Newman, 106, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, March 29th, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Massillon following a lengthy illness. Born in Philippi, West Virginia on July 27, 1910, a daughter of the late Willis and Polly (Mayle) Johnson, also preceded in death by her husband Darl Newman, died 1964, as well as 12 brothers and sisters. A Member of the People's Chapel of Moatsville, West Virginia. Survived by daughter Madlee Mayle; son Lester (Susan) Newman, all of Canton; along with 17 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren; and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. Friends may call on Friday, March 31st in the Waltner-SIMCHAK Funeral Home from 6 to 8pm, additional calling hours will be held at the People's Chapel in Moatsville, West Virginia on Sunday April 2nd from 1-2pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2 pm with Rev. Ruston Seaman officiating. Interment will take place in the Welch Cemetery.
