Bruce A Gentry, 75, of Fairlawn, formally of East Canton, passed away Thursday, March 3 rd , expectedly due to the disease of Alcoholism at The Arbors at Fairlawn. Born on February 18 th , 1941, son of the late Roy and Ora (Braswell), also preceded in death by daughter Lynn Marie Gentry; sons Joseph and Bruce Gentry; sisters Mary Parker, Marjorie Pettay, Sybil Miliny, Beullah Kuopka; brothers R L and Joseph Gentry; and brother-in-law Homer Pettay. Survived by daughter Cathy (Alan) Hirt of Bath; 2 granddaughters Tara Billeter of Wadsworth, Mercedes (Joseph) Gentry of Proctor, WV; grandson Javin Gentry of Strongsville; great-grandson Tucker of Proctor, WV; sister Muncy Marshall of Navarre; nephew Gary (Dorothy) Pettay of Navarre; good friends Jeff Wiles and Nick Dimenna and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bruce grew up in the Crystal Park neighborhood in Canton and attended McKinley High School. Married Gaye Seely at age 19 and had 4 children. He started Bruce Gentry Roofing Co. in the 70's and later retired from the Hoover Company after 20 years of service. He was an accomplished carpenter, a skill his father taught him and enjoyed rebuilding and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and vintage Ford Jubilee tractor. He never had any enemies, was kind-hearted and would always lend a helping hand or loan a couple bucks even if he was down to his last few dollars. He will be dearly missed.
