Obituary

David L. Mathie, 76, of East Canton passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Mercy Hospital. Born in Massillon, he was the son of the late Walter and Geraldine (Rohr) Mathie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Richard Mathie, Donald Mathie, Patty Schiller and Nancy Riemenschneider. David will be remembered as a man whose larger-than-life personality could brighten any room. He had a gift for making people laugh, never hesitated to strike up a conversation with anyone he met, and truly believed there were no strangers-only friends he had not met yet. Outgoing and never one to be bashful, David was often the life of the party, bringing smiles, laughter, and unforgettable memories wherever he went. David found great satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed truck driving and appreciated the open road, while also taking pride in spending time outdoors cutting and burning wood. Whether he was hard at work or sharing stories with friends and family, he approached life with an easygoing spirit and a contagious sense of humor. Above all else, David had a deep love for animals. His cats and dogs were far more than pets-they were his "four-legged kids," as he lovingly called them. They were cherished members of his family and brought him immeasurable joy, companionship, and unconditional love throughout his life. Survived by his wife Carolyn Mathie; son Lucas (Suzanne) Mathie; daughter Taunya (Randall) Dunn; siblings Sylvia (Timothy) Leahy, Sally Heck, Dennis (Rachel) Mathie, Walter "Wally" (Glenda) Mathie, Russell (Sharon) Mathie; granddaughter Anna Marie Dunn; as well as other loving family members and friends.
