David E. Shanabarger, 76, of Canton, passed in peace Thursday February 15, 2024. Born in Zanesville, on February 16, 1947, a son of the late Robert L. and Lois V. (West) Shanabarger, also preceded in death by 2 daughters Jenna Shanabarger and Danae Shanabarger-Scheks. David enjoyed hunting and yearly camping trips with friends and family. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Darah Shanabarger; 2 sons Jason and Dave Shanabarger; as well as 11 grandchildren Jenna, Claire, Johnny, Berkley, Finley, Rory, Levi, Wells, Dane, Quinn, and Riggs. David spent majority of his career as a police officer and respiratory therapist at Alliance Community Hospital, retiring as Captain of the Marlboro Police Department. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 as a combat medic in the United States Navy, alongside the U.S Marine Corp. He was a member of post 7490 VFW of Louisville, post 548 American Legion of Louisville, as well as the Fraternal Order of Police post 73. Semper Fidelis "For I was, I am, and I shall forever be a United States Marine." A graveside service will be held on Monday February 26th 11:00am, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens of Louisville.
