Obituary

Dean A. McAbier, 58, of Canton passed away on May 8, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Canton, on July 30, 1967 he was the son of the late Dick McAbier and Annette (D'Aureilio) (Phil) Coleman. In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by his brother Rick McAbier. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1986 to 1994, earning the rank of Lance Corporal, paygrade E-3. A Marine through and through, Dean carried the values of honor, loyalty, and commitment with him throughout his entire life. "Semper Fi" was more than a motto to him - it was the way he lived every day. Following his military service, Dean worked as a welder until an injury changed the course of his career. Never one to back down from a challenge, he attended Stark State College, where he earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in Design Engineering. Through determination and hard work, he built a successful career as an engineer, a profession he proudly worked in until his retirement. Dean was the kind of man you could always count on - the first one there when you needed help and the first one to stand by your side when times were tough. Loyal to the core, he was a true friend who would do anything for anyone. He treasured the friendships he made growing up and maintained those bonds throughout his life, never forgetting the people who mattered to him. Outside of work, Dean loved hair metal music and cheering on his favorite Cleveland and Ohio sports teams, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. Whether listening to music, watching a game, or spending time with friends, he appreciated life's simple joys. Above all else, Dean was a devoted family man. He was an attentive and loving father who never missed an event, always showing up for his children no matter what. Family always came first, a value he proudly instilled in his children from a young age. His kids were truly his pride and joy, and nothing made him happier than watching them grow. Dean will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his strength, his generous heart, and the countless lives he touched through his friendship, service, and love. His legacy of dedication to family, country, and those he cared about will live on forever. Survived by daughter Katelyn (Nick) Freday; son AJ (Kristen) McAbier; 2 sisters Renee (Alan) Tower, Tonja Spencer; brother Scott (Charla) McAbier; 2 grandchildren Sylas and Theo Dean Freday; nieces and nephews Kaleigh, Kortnee, Patience, Billy; a special friend Jeanne Massouh; as well as other loving family members and friends.
