Gerald B. Michel, 89, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, August 9th, at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Caldwell on June 13, 1933, a son of the late Harry and Cora Lillian (Crum) Michel, also preceded in death by 5 brothers Art, Leo, Victor, Roger, twin brother Harold Michel, 2 sisters Irene Michel and Theresa Huck. Employed for 12 years as a maintenance engineer for McKinley High School before his employment as a mechanic for Plain Local Board of Education starting in 1956 and retiring in 2008. A member of Christ the Servant Parish at our Lady of Peace Church. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. Survived by his wife Sophie J. (Stefanak) Michel, married June 30, 1956; daughter Catherine Michel, of Canton; 2 sons Dr. John (Sharon E. Banks) Michel, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Gerald J Michel, of Canton; sister Wonetta Smith, of Hebron; sister-in-law Beverly Michel, of Canton; and grandson Andrew Michel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, August 16th in Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
