Isadore Joseph Fontes was born in Midland, Pennsylvania on January 4, 1930 to the late Peter Fontes and Candida Da Rocha of Fogo and Brava Cape Verde Islands off Portugal. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 after an extended illness.
Isadore, affectionately known as "Pete", graduated from Central Catholic High School and was employed by Republic Steel where he retired with over 30 + years of service.
Pete was a long standing member of the Canton Negro Old Timers and was the original artist and creator of the Canton Negro Old Timers emblem.
On January 4, 1985, Pete married Eloise (Williams) Fontes, where both were devoted and happy to the very end. His love for his children and family was outstanding and it was shown in his actions. Pete never had step children, he only and always has sons and daughters treating each one equal in love and care. Pete was known for his WALK, with strides of strength and honor throughout Canton.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents: Peter Fontes and Candidia Da Rocha-Fontes. Siblings: Elvira Motley, Rosalyn Fontes, Ameila Long, Edith Garrett, Natalie Fortes, and Nathaniel Fontes. Daughter: Evangelist Paula F. Holt, and son: Brian Keith Fontes Sr.
Pete was a blessing to all he came in contact with. He leaves to cherish his memory: His devoted wife: Eloise Fontes of Hinesville GA, Children, Eric J. Fontes Sr., Grace A. Fontes-Young, Eve L. Fontes, and Mark (Deborah) Fontes Sr., all of Canton, Ohio and Cynthia (Walter) Bell of Hinesville, GA. Brother: Peter (Emma) Fontes of Cape Corals Florida and Sister: Madelyn Strain of Canton Ohio. He has 26 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
