John Christian Fontes, 82, of Canton, passed away Thursday, March 30th, at Green Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility. Born in Canton, on June 24, 1940, a son of the late Christian and Vivian (Gonsalves) Fontes, also preceded in death by sister Carol Massey, 3 brothers Edward Fontes, Julio Fontes, Manuel Fontes, and sister-in-law Mary Fontes. A member of the former St. Paul's Catholic Church of Canton, he was employed for many years at Ashland Oil before retiring. Survived by 2 daughters Amanda Fontes, of North Canton, Maureen (Shawn) Evans, of Texas; son Christopher (Brigitte) Fontes, of North Canton; 3 sisters Marie Pride, Sonja (Tyrone) Nance, Anna Marie (Carlton) Williams; 2 brothers Adelino Fontes, Richard (Rosemary) Fontes; sister-in-law Mamie Fontes; 8 grandchildren; as well as many nieces; nephews; family members; and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Thursday, April 6th in the Waltner-SIMCHAK Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held 2 hours prior to services.
