Lawrence John Sarachene, better known as "Satch," was born on April 16, 1951, in Massillon City Hospital.
He was a "worrier" as a little boy, but was very bright and handsome. He lost his father very young in his life, and was lucky to get an even better substitute, who he called "Pops." He graduated from Jackson High School where he loved to play basketball. In his own words, he specialized in rebounds and in "fouling out" every game he played. He received his bachelor's degree from the Ohio State University in business, but he loved to work with his hands. He was a very hard worker all of his life. He worked for Blue Max Landscaping for over 30 years, and Max was his best friend.
Larry was a gentle soul, sometimes a little rough around the edges. He had a big heart and he loved animals. He even cooked for the stray cats in the neighborhood. He was a very private person. He kept to himself and lived a simple life. He never stopped worrying. In one of our last conversations he told me he was very tired. He passed away on December 28, 2012.
He is survived by his family who will never stop missing and loving him. His father, James D. Nikolaidis, brothers, Louie Nikolaidis and Thomas James Nikolaidis, sisters, Victoria N. Ruff, Lou Ann Sarachene, and Connie D. Nikolaidis. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Evan and Meredith Ruff, Sonya and Alex Nikolaidis, Nathan and Nicholas Valverde, and Natasia, Mikayla, Anastacia, and Abrielle Nikolaidis.
A memorial has not yet been scheduled. Details are to follow.
We know that he has touched many lives in his short life, and we share in your sorrow.
