Obituary

Leona Mayle, 90, of Canton passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026 inside her home surrounded by loving family. Born in Philippi West Virginia on December 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Miner) Newman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Vincent Mayle Sr., daughter Donna Kennedy, 7 sisters, 1 brother, and 2 grandchildren. Leona was a loving wife, devoted family member, and woman of strong faith who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She especially enjoyed garage saling with her husband, always happy to see what treasures they might find together. She also loved visiting pick-a-patch farms, picking strawberries, tomatoes, and other fresh produce. Leona enjoyed going out to eat, taking car rides, and spending time with the people she loved. She had a special talent for canning and took pride in making homemade jelly and apple butter, sharing the fruits of her hard work with those around her. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime member of Canton Freewill Baptist Church. Leona will be remembered for the love she shared with her family, the memories she created through life's everyday adventures, and the many ways she brought warmth and care to those who knew her. Survived by 6 daughters Orlettia Mayle, Lashel (Raymond) Wesley, Lachone (Jeff Carlisle) Mayle, Angela (Dave) Parsons, Marsha Mayle, Kimberly (Antonio) Poole; 2 sons Vincent Mayle Jr., Terry (Nicole) Mayle; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; as well as other loving family members and friends. Calling hours will be held in Canton Freewill Baptist Church (2817 Harmont Ave NE, Canton, 44705) on Thursday, September 17 from 12pm-1pm. Service will start at 1pm with Pastor Anthony Mayle officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Louisville.
