Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Ardelean, 94, of Canton, passed away Friday, December 29th, in her son's and daughter-in-law's arms at St. Luke's Lutheran Home following a brief illness. Born in Youngstown on December 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Istodie and Lucretia (Bleahu) Laurentiu also preceded in death by her husband Charles Ardelean, died December 19, 1990, 2 sisters Otilia Contonicos, Cornelia Suciu, 3 brothers Istodie Laurentiu, Aurel Laurentiu, and Nelu Laurentiu. Mary was the co-owner along with her husband of Charles Auto Electric of Akron for many years. A member of St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral of Canton, a member and past president of Sf. Maria's Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the church's Senior Citizen Club, and a former member of the church council and choir. A longtime member of ARCA. Mary's greatest love and pride was for her family, her church, her many friends and her Romanian heritage. She loved her winters in Florida, gardening, and being an extraordinary cook. Also, she enjoyed working church dinners, caterings, and fish frys. Mama Mary and Buna, as she was fondly called, touched all who knew her and benefited by her generosity and help. Survived by son Daniel (Cynthia) Ardelean, of North Canton; grandson Erik (Lorrie) Ardelean, of Canton; great granddaughter Madison Ardelean 2 nieces Otilia Tamas, of Mount Vernon. Constanta Laurentiu, of Bucharest, Romania; Godson Charles Gherman, of Mount Vernon.; along with many other nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. George Romanian  Catholic Cathedral, 1123 44th Street NE Canton, OH 44714, at 10am on Friday, January 5th, with Most Rev. Bishop John Michael Botean and Very Rev. Father Ovidiu Marginean officiating. Friends may call Thursday, January 4th from 5 to 8pm also in the church where a Saracusta service will be held at 7:30. Burial will take place on Friday in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank St. Luke Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center for its loving, compassionate care.
