Mildred "Millie" Rebecca Scales, 97, of North Canton, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 15th, with family by her side. Born in Staunton, Virginia on September 20, 1927, a daughter of the late Albert D. and Ollie Kathleen Sutler. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 sons, Steve & Ron Scales, brother, Houston D. Sutler, and her husband, William Scales. Millie loved God, family and her many dear friends, she was always ready to help anyone in need. She met and married Bill Scales in Hagerstown, Maryland. After Bills discharge from the Army they moved back to his hometown Geneseo, Illinois where they raised their family and enjoyed many family vacations across the country. Millie worked at A&P store as a head cashier/ book keeper for many years before retiring. After realizing she wasn't ready to retire she became a school bus driver for Pinks bus services for 29 years. Then as a labor of love became the custodian at Grace United Methodist Church where she was employed for 12 years before retiring in March of 2013. Millie was a member of Geneseo Eastern Star where Bill and herself served as worthy Patron and matron in 1980. Also a member at Grace United Methodist Church for 64 years where she attended bible studies, violet circle, and sang in the choir, most recently she was a member of Church of the Lakes in Canton. She was very loved by her faith family. Millie enjoyed cooking, baking and traveling, she often stated her middle name should have been "go" as she visited many states as well as Okinawa, Japan - Germany - Austria - France - Italy - Greece - Mexico as well as taking numerous cruises. Survived by son, Mike Scales of Westminster, Colorado; daughter, Lisa Swanigan of Canton, Ohio; sister, Linda (Ted) Leech-Towner of Lynchburg, Virginia; 7 grandchildren, Todd, Andy, Tammy, Nicole, Tanja, Chip, Rebecca; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as other loving friends and family. A memorial service will be held in the Church of the Lakes on Sunday, March 23rd, at 2:30pm, with Pastor Bryan George officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30pm-2:30pm. A memorial service will also be held in Geneseo, Illinois in the Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 12th, at 11am with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating. Visitation will be held from 9am-11am.
