Obituary

Myrtle B. Ennis Wilcox, age 93, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026. Born on February 28, 1933, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Myrtle was the beloved daughter of Henry Ennis and Catherine (Clarence) Ash. She attended Peabody High School in Alexandria before relocation to Canton, Ohio to join her mother. There, she met the love of her life, John I Wilcox Jr., whom she was married to 65 years. Myrtle was a faithful member of Peoples Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday School and participated in the Women's Ministry. She was also known for her compassion and dedication to others, often requesting prayers on their behalf through prayer chain. Myrtle was deeply devoted to her family and found great joy in spending time with them. She worked for many years at Camelot Enterprises before retiring to care for her family following her son Mark's automobile accident. She leaves her children to cherish her memory; Kathy Ford of Atlanta, Georgia; Linda Wilcox of Canton, Ohio; Ivan (Harleyanda) Wilcox of Omaha, Nebraska; Stephanie Wilcox of the home; and Mark (Pam) Wilcox of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law Alta Wilcox of Arizona; sisters Ramona (Richard) Saulter of Omaha, Nebraska, and Lisa Ash of Canton, Ohio; one step-brother Henry Ash; Goddaughter Ronetta Fields of Columbus, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren that affectionately called her Gammie; three first cousins Barbara McClain, Marie Matthews and Paul Larry; Goddaughter in Love Beth Meiser and Godson in Love Darrell Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her son, Michael G. Wilcox; and her son in love, Byron Jamerson. Those who knew Myrtle will remember her warm spirit and her belief in never saying "Goodbye." Instead, she would simply say, "See you later." Her enduring expression of love was always, "I love you." Her love, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Calling hours will take place in Peoples Baptist Church, 701 17th St. SE, Canton, Ohio, 44707, on Saturday, June 20 from 11am-12pm. Funeral services will begin at 12pm with Rev. Dr. Walter J. Arrington officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
