Obituary

Nita Elizabeth Halton-Hunt, 71, of Canton, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital.

Nita Elizabeth Halton-Hunt was born on January 10,1953 in Detroit, Michigan, to the union of the late Bishop Stanley Halton and Mother Mary Lou (Lancaster) Halton. She is the oldest of twelve siblings comprised of nine sons and three daughters.

Nita graduated from Shaw High School located in East Cleveland, Ohio. She continued her education journey and received a degree from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. Nita was the owner/ founder and instructor of the Footloose Dance Center. After which she was employed by the School Board of the Cleveland Heights – University Heights School System where she retired. Later, she became the owner of Elegant Occasions.

Nita derived an extensive history of Godly principles instilled in her from both her mother, Mary Lou Halton, and father, Bishop Stanley Halton. She understood the foundational components needed to live a God-fearing and faith-filled life. Continuing the lineage set before her, she obtained her Minister's Certificate of License and remained a member of The House of the Lord under the leadership of Bishop F. Josephus Johnson, II in Akron, Ohio until her demise.

Nita was strong spirited and she truly loved her family and children. Nita is preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Stanley Halton and Mother Mary Lou Halton; four brothers: Gerald Halton, Bishop Nathan Halton, Bishop Gabriel Halton, Peter Halton and half- brother Stanley Halton. Nita leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of over forty years, Vaughn Hunt; children Semika (Steven) Harris-Miller, John L. (Tara) Hunt, Lisa G.(Kevin) Leapheart, John B. (Rachel) Harris, Micah E. Hunt and Joshua Hunt; her siblings Paul (Krystal) Halton, Timothy (Barbara) Halton, Daniel Halton, Priscilla Halton, Bishop Stephen (Sheila) Halton,Sr., Joy Halton, Benjamin Halton; half-sister Maybellene Halton, brother-in-law, Ralph Hunt, sister-in-law, Colleen (Dale) Martin ; nine grandchildren, Jeremiah, Raylynn, Ashaunte, Braylon, Damien, Shanice, Shane, Ky'miir, Lawren; three great grandchildren Kaisen, Blake, Dakota; mother-in-law, Arvie Hunt as well as many other family members and friends. Her legacy lives on.
