Phillip Lee Jones Sr., 68, of Canton, passed away Sunday, January 10th, at Aultman Hospital. Born in Hampstead, North Carolina on March 2, 1952, a son of the late Judith (Jones) Austin and John Shepard, also preceded in death by sister Brenda Redd; brothers Lawrence Sidberry, Randolph Jones, John Fuller; sister-in-law Carrie Jones; brother-in-law Julio Fontes and step father James Austin. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the US Postal Service in 2007. Survived by wife of 44 years Gloria (Neal) Jones; 2 daughters Tara London, of Hampstead, North Carolina, Latasha Jones, of Canton; 1 son Phillip L (Ann) Jones Jr., of Hampstead, North Carolina; 3 sisters Mamie Fontes, of East Canton, Linda  (Demetrius) Smith, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Renee (Roosevelt) Sidberry, of Hampstead, North Carolina; brother Michael (Fenita) Shepard, of Raleigh, North Carolina; 2 uncles Fletcher Shepard, Lee Jones; 7 grandchildren, 3 sister-in-laws Giselle Sidberry, Carolyn Barnes, Linda Barnes and 3 brother-in-laws Roy Barnes, Harry Barnes, Milton Redd as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM on Friday, January 15th in the Waltner-SIMCHAK Funeral Home. Friends and family may call 2 hours prior to services. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
