Randy L
Gehring
March 9, 1954 – May 15, 2026
Randy L. Gehring, 72, of Canton passed away on May 15, 2026, at Mercy Hospital. Born in Canton, on March 9, 1954, he was the son of the late Bill Gehring and Dorothy Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 25 years, Charlotte Gehring as well as a sister Connie Espenschied Hess. Randy was the kind of man people remembered. Not because he demanded attention, but because his presence filled a room with strength, humor, and loyalty. A devoted father above all else, he poured his heart into those he loved and worked hard to be the kind of man his family could depend on. To his children, he was more than a dad; he was a protector, supporter, and steady example of resilience. He was one of the best golfers around, carrying both skill and pride onto the course. Whether swinging a club or sharing stories, Randy enjoyed life's simple moments and had a way of turning ordinary days into lasting memories. He was famous among family and friends for his love of watermelon - convinced he could out-eat just about anyone, and never above "borrowing" someone else's slice when the opportunity arose. Randy was a man who endured hardship and did the best he could with what life handed him. He was strong-willed, resilient, and refused to give up, even when circumstances were difficult. His determination spoke louder than words and left an impression on those who knew him. He found comfort in familiar things like watching Gunsmoke, appreciating the values of toughness and grit, and taking pride in his beloved 1999 red GMC truck, which was more than transportation; it was part of who he was. Friendship mattered deeply to Randy, and few friendships meant more than the one he shared with Timmy. Timmy was a loyal companion who treated Randy with kindness and respect, standing beside him through life's ups and downs. Their bond reflected the kind of friendship many hope to find - genuine, unwavering, and full of care. Survived by 2 daughters Julie (Robert) Dittman, Jennifer (Ben) Bishop; son Michael Gehring; brother Mike Gehring; 4 grandchildren, Emily, Kaitlyn, Allison, including a very special grandson, who was essentially his son, Legend Drake; numerous great-grandchildren; his special friend Timmy; as well as other loving family members and friends. He will be missed deeply, but lessons of resilience, loyalty, and love that he showed throughout his life will continue to live on. His legacy remains not only in the stories told about him, but in the people whose lives were better because he was part of them.
