Raymond Lee
Hogsett
May 14, 1948 – May 15, 2026
Raymond Lee Hogsett Sr. of Canton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026 in his home at the age of 78. Raymond was born in Canton, Ohio on May 14, 1948 to the late Mose Anthony Hogsett and Betty Mitchell Morton. Raymond was an extraordinary husband to the love of his life Madeline as they united in Holy Matrimony on October 31, 1972. To this beautiful union, two amazing sons were born. He was also a father figure to many, as he devoted his life to lifting others up, offering encouragement through kind words and unwavering support to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He believed in speaking life into people while reminding them of their worth and making sure they knew that they mattered. His greatest joy came from seeing others smile, succeed and believe in themselves.
Raymond was a proud graduate and lifelong supporter of the Canton McKinley Bulldogs and he carried immense pride for his hometown and its people. He was a devoted Cleveland Browns fan, standing by his team with the same loyalty and heart he showed in every aspect of his life. His passion for sports extended far beyond cheering from the sidelines. It became a way that he shaped many generations. For more than 40 years, Raymond dedicated himself to coaching in the Canton Midget Football League. To countless young athletes and families, he was more than a coach. He was a pillar of strength, a guiding light and a steady presence during life's most formative years. Through tireless dedication and an unwavering commitment to youth mentorship, Raymond poured his entire heart into Canton's children, through teaching lessons that reached beyond the game-lessons about character, perseverance, discipline and kindness.
Raymond was a phenomenal leader whose influence could be felt in every life he touched. He encouraged when others doubted, uplifted when others struggled, and believed in people before they believed in themselves. His words carried weight because they were rooted in sincerity, compassion, and love. He had a rare ability to make others feel seen, heard and valued. A giant of a man in spirit, heart and character, Raymond leaves behind a legacy that will echo for generations. The young people he mentored, the families he supported, the friends he encouraged, and the community he strengthened will continue carrying pieces of wisdom and love forward. Raymond was an employee of the Timken Roller Bearing Company for over 30 years until his retirement in 2008.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; William Paul Fentress Jr., James Fentress, David Fentress, Gary Morton, Charles Morton and brother in law James E. Hubbard Sr. He is also preceded in death by his sister Roxie Morton and step-mother Margaret Hogsett.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Madeline Alteri Hogsett, his two sons Raymond "Rue" Hogsett Jr., and Vincent "Vinnie" (Siri) Hogsett. His sisters Janice Hubbard, Patty Johnson, Doris Hogsett Massey, Helen (Lamar) Stewart, Ester Robinson, Margaret "JoAnne" Jackson and sister in law, Marie Fentress. He also leaves his brothers Robert "Bobby" Hogsett, Anthony Hogsett, Cornell Fentress, Johnny Morton III, Demond Dobson, Jimmy Morton and William "Ace" Morton. He leaves 8 grandchildren Raemar Hogsett, Raymond "Trey" (Cassandra) Hogsett III, Rhion Wesley, Christiana Hogsett, Tanea Osteen, Adoria Sanders and Vinson Hogsett. He also leaves to cherish his memory, 7 great-grandchildren. Raymond had very special friends Mary and LQ Ellis in which he could not wait to retire so that he could hang with them everyday at the "Morning Brewskey" drinking coffee. This tradition began in 1998 and has continued daily for all of these years. Darrell Austin was also a very special friend to Raymond and his family. He leaves behind his special cousins Joann McClatcher Mason and Jimmy (Mary) McClather of Painsville, Ohio. He also leaves to cherish his legacy his extended sons James (Elroy) Ball, Algie (Cookie) Cook, Acie Mastin, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
