IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy Lavallen
Newell
January 31, 1958 – December 31, 2025
Roy Lavallen Newell, 67, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, December 31st in his home surrounded by his loving children. Born in Dresden on January 31st, 1958 to the late Cecil Newell. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandfather Lavallen (Shorty) Newell, his brother and sister-in-law Cecil (Sandy) Newell, his beloved dog Jack, as well as numerous friends. Roy was one of those rare people whose presence made life feel steadier and more real. He was deeply loveable, with the biggest heart, and he gave that heart freely to everyone around him. Roy didn't pretend to be anyone he wasn't. He was unapologetically authentic, honest to his core, and known for having absolutely no filter. His bluntness was never unkind; it was simply Roy being real, saying what others were thinking, and doing it with a sincerity that made people trust him. What truly set Roy apart was his unwavering compassion. He showed up for people again and again, regardless of their past, their mistakes, or their circumstances. He offered support without judgment, love without conditions, and loyalty without limits. If you needed someone in your corner, Roy was already there. To his family, Roy was the rock-the steady foundation everyone leaned on in good times and bad. His strength wasn't loud or showy; it lived in his consistency, his protectiveness, and his deep sense of responsibility for those he loved. He made people feel safe, seen, and accepted just as they were. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty, generosity, and unconditional love. He will be remembered for his big heart, his sharp words that somehow always came from the right place, and the countless lives he touched simply by being himself. Survived by his daughter, Susan Marie Newell; 2 sons, Roy Lavallen Newell Jr., Jeremy McGuire; his brother, Joseph Roland Newell; 3 grandchildren, Aniah Kathleen Newell, Roy Newell III, Isla Rae Newell; 2 cousins April and Marie; 2 life long best friends, Jimmy Stires, Mike Pifer; his beloved dog Jack x2; various grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as Jessica Smith (daughter-in-law); and other loving family members and friends. Though he is deeply missed, the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in all who knew him.
