Wendell Washington, 52 of Massillon, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, in his home. Wendell was born in Dover, Ohio in Tuscarawas County and later moved to Massillon, Ohio at 3 years old. A son of the late Woodrow and Doris Jean (Pep) Washington II, he is also preceded in death by his son Wendell Washington II; brothers Raymond "Kevin" Mills, Woodrow "Woody" Washington III, and sister Norene Mills.
Wendell was fun-loving, kind and a humble gentleman. He loved to joke with all that he came into contact with, especially friends and family. He also loved the Boston Red Sox baseball team and shared his dream of one day traveling to Boston for a game. His favorite color was red and would often be seen wearing red clothing. His favorite place was in the kitchen cooking up some wonderful meals.
Wendell will be sadly missed by his son Jayce whom he loved dearly; his siblings Cheryl (Mark) Streeter of Hampton, VA, Shaurita (Dele) Mills of Canton, Arthur "Buck" Smith of Dover, and Phyllis Washington of Canton; nephews Alan, Mark II, Marcel, Darian, Kendu; nieces Monique, Tanganica, Ciara, Kiara, Terryn, Tanisha, Tionna, Danielle and Chandler; special uncle Brian Washington; special aunt Phyllis (Bruce) Lowery Dorsey and very special friends Traci Kennard, and Julie Stock, as well as many other great-nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
In celebration of Wendell's life a visitation will take place in the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home, 2257 Mahoning Rd NE, Canton, Ohio at noon on Friday, January 6th. Friends and family may call one hour prior, also in the funeral home.
